History: The Hydropower Pioneers of Aspen

In many respects, Aspen’s mining era was anything but sustainable. However, the innovation seen throughout the mining era did produce notable achievements for the community, not the least of which was the production of hydropower. Utilizing the natural resources around them, engineers of the day harnessed two rivers to provide power to a burgeoning community and bringing worldwide attention to this hard working town.
