KQED Climate Watch: Solar-Thermal Energy
Posted under News by Iskandar Makhmudov at 19:29 on Jan 23 2010
A Gigantic Solar-Thermal Plant – East of Plaster City, CA Stirling Energys Kevin Harper takes you to the future site of his companys enormous solar-thermal plant at the base of the Coyote Mountains on the Western edge of the Imperial Valley, just miles north of the US-Mexico border along Interstate 8. The company hopes to have the plant operational within five years. Once built, itll be one of the largest solar projects in the world, producing more than 750 megawatts, enough energy to power around 600000 homes. The recently-approved Sunrise Powerlink transmission corridor will carry this power over the mountains to San Diego. Video by kqed’s Rob Schmitz. www.kqed.org/climatewatch

@teemuruskeepaa Very hot, dry desert. 110 degree highs in the summer are typical.

Is that biome semi-desert or arid?
