Engineering company M+W Zander has signed a contract to be the contractor for the new solar photovoltaics manufacturing complex in Singapore being developed by Norway’s Renewable Energy Corporation (REC). The contract, valued at more than EUR 100 million [US $127.37], includes planning and construction for the cells and modules production areas of the solar complex.
The contract is part of the first phase of development of the REC Singapore plant. The planned cell production capacity for this phase is estimated at approximately 550 megawatts (MW) from eight production lines. The planned capacity for the modules is estimated at approximately 590 MW from four production lines.
“It is an important success for M+W Zander to receive a major order from the world’s largest producers of polysilicon and wafers for solar applications,” said Jürgen Wild, speaker for the M+W Zander’s management board.
In related news, REC has entered into a long-term take-or-pay agreement for the supply of fine particulate silicon from the FBR-process for an un-named PV company based in Asia. The contract has a value in excess of US $500 million and runs for seven years from 2009 through 2015. Prices and volumes are predetermined for the entire contract period, including clauses covering annual price adjustments in the case of cost escalations.
