- SolarWrights, a renewable energy company, has acquired the solar system design and installation firm Sunsearch LLC for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition is the second so far this year for the Rhode Island company. In January the company completed an acquisition of Kosmo Solar.
- Brookfield Renewable Power Inc. has completed a US$120 million project financing in connection with the recent acquisition of the Itiquira hydroelectric generating facility in the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil. The acquisition has expanded Brookfield’s installed capacity to 470 MW across 29 hydroelectric stations mainly based in South, Southeast and Midwest of Brazil.
- Oerlikon Solar expects installed thin film solar panel manufacturing capacity to grow beyond 8 GW by 2010 with its new Singapore facility. As part of its expansion, Oerlikon has also entered an agreement with the electronics manufacturing services provider Flextronics. The company will support Oerlikon Solar’s scalability requirements for global production capacity.
- Renewable Energy Generation Ltd has received planning approval for its wind project at Loscar, South Yorkshire, UK. The three turbine project is located in a green belt area, and subject to the satisfactory discharge of planning conditions, turbine orders will be placed and production is expected to begin in 2009.
- EPV SOLAR Inc, a thin-film solar module manufacturer and photovoltaic systems provider has entered a into a five-year 250 MW of amorphous silicon modules supply agreement with City Solar Kraftwerke AG, a developer, installer and operator of large-scale photovoltaic power plants.
- Phoenix Solar AG has signed a framework agreement with Meinl International Power Ltd for the planning and turn-key construction of photovoltaic power plants with a peak output totalling approximately 14 MW. They are to be built in Sicily by the end of 2009.
- Solar Semiconductor, a producer of photovoltaic (PV) modules, has announced a US$695 million strategic partnership with AS Solar GmbH, a re-seller of solar PV products in Europe. Solar Semiconductor will supply AS Solar with modules for the European market.
- German Ersol has signed a contract with IBC SOLAR AG for the supply of crystalline silicon solar cells. The contract, which is valued at over €500 million, will run over a period of 10 years.
